Solid Waste Services In Chester Borough

Curbside Garbage Collection

  • Program Description: 

    Beginning in 2015, the Township of Mount Olive will be collection garbage on behalf of the Borough in accordance with a shared service agreement.

    Unacceptable solid waste includes hazardous waste, vegetative wastes, medical wastes, computers and their components, or building materials. Collections may start as early as 5am. Please put out your garbage cans the night before and make sure that the cans are properly secured from possible animal intrusion. The annual cost for the service is $294, which covers the service fee to the solid waste contractor.

Curbside Recycling Collection

  • Program Description: 

    Chester Borough contracts for single-stream, all-in-one residential curbside recycling. Maximum weight of curbside recycling container is 50 pounds; use multiple containers if needed.

    Please place your recycling out the night before. Recyclables must be placed at the curb the night before collection. Please place a heavy item on top of the recyclables, or else use lids to secure the recyclable items from being blown about. If the recycling crew fails to collect your recyclables, even though you placed them out for collection at the correct time and place, Please email solidwaste@chesterborough.org.

Material Accepted

Aluminum Containers (Recycling - Single-Stream - All-In-One) Rinse thoroughly (no residue allowed) and commingle with recyclables.

Brown Paper Bags (Recycling - Single-Stream - All-In-One) Commingle with other recyclables.

Chipboard/Paperboard (Recycling - Single-Stream - All-In-One) Commingle with other recyclables. Flatten all boxes. Include beverage carriers, cereal, pasta and facial tissue boxes, paper towel rolls.

Corrugated Cardboard (Recycling - Single-Stream - All-In-One) Flatten and mix with other recyclables, and do not bundle or tie.

Glass Containers (Recycling - Single-Stream - All-In-One) Remove lids, rinse the glass and commingle with recyclables. Put metal lids into container; do not put metal lids back onto glass bottles and jars.

Newspaper (Recycling - Single-Stream - All-In-One) Mix with other recyclables, and do not tie or bundle.

Curbside Yard Waste Collection

    The DPW conducts a leaf pick-up each fall and a brush pick-up twice a year, once in the fall and once again in the Spring.

Brush/Tree Parts (Recycling)

  • Limbs/Large branches: 1” to 4” butt diameter. Please place limbs/branches in neat piles with butt ends in the same direction, parallel with or facing the curb line. This material does not need to be tied.
  • Brush: 1” or less butt diameter. Please tie this material in 3’ to 4’ bundles and place parallel with or facing curb line. Use string to tie bundles. DO NOT USE WIRE!!
  • Material placed at the curb mixed with grass, leaves, roots, stumps, garbage, etc., or not in the manor required above will not be picked up!

Leaves (Recycling)

  • Please note, as per NJ State Storm Water Regulations, LEAVES CANNOT BE ANY CLOSER THAN 10 FEET FROM THE STORM DRAIN
  • Please place leaves in piles next to or just behind the curb line. Leaves should not extend more than three feet into the street.
  • Leaves in bags, mixed with grass, sticks, lawn mulching, garden debris, rocks, garbage, etc., will not be picked up.

Leaves that are not picked up because of non-compliance with the above will be the responsibility of the owner to remove.

 

 

Curbside Bulky Waste Collection

  • Program Description: 

    Unacceptable solid waste includes hazardous waste, vegetative wastes, medical wastes, computers and their components, or building materials. Stickers are available for online purchase at chesterborough.org. or the Chester Borough municipal building during regular hours. The correct sticker shall be affixed to the bulk item for the appropriate amount using $15, $10, or $5 stickers. These stickers must be purchased and registered for pick-up by 12noon on Tuesday for Wednesday bulk pick up.
