Curbside Garbage Collection

  • Program Description: Butler contracts for residential garbage curbside. Place materials out the night before or early the next morning as collection will begin at 6AM.
  • Schedule: The entire Borough is collected on Tues. and Fri. The municipality pays for the tipping fees directly.There will be NO COLLECTION of any kind on the following HOLIDAYS (New Years Eve, New Years Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Veterans Day, General Elections Day, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Chrsmas Eve and Christmas Day)

Type 10 Municipal Solid Waste (Disposal) Must be placed in garbage cans that are NO LARGER than 33 gallons and must weigh less than 50 pounds. Cans not meeting these requirements WILL NOT be collected starting July 1, 2023. The size of the can has ALWAYS been limited to 33 gallons for the safety of the workers.

 

Curbside Recycling Collection

  • Program Description: Butler contracts to have single-stream recyclables collected at the curb. Place materials out the night before or early the next morning as collecOon will begin at 6AM.

Corrugated Cardboard (Recycling - Single Stream - Generic) Flatten boxes.Pizza boxes are not acceptable

Glass Containers (Recycling - Single Stream - Generic) Rinse, commingle with container mix. Metal lids may be placed in container separately.

Plastic #1 (PETE) Bottles (Recycling - Single Stream - Generic) Discard lids, rinse, flatten, commingle with container mix. Only bottles with necks smaller than the base are acceptable.

Plastic #2 (HDPE) Bottles (Recycling - Single Stream - Generic) Rinse, flatten, commingle with container mix. Only bottles with necks smaller than the base are acceptable.

Steel (Tin) Containers (Recycling - Single Stream - Generic) Rinse, commingle with container mix. Aerosol cans must be empty with plastic caps removed and discarded.

  • Program Description: Curbside collection of vegetative waste

Material Accepted

Brush/Tree Parts (Recycling) Brush must be a maximum length of 4 feet, maximum diameter of 4 inches and in bundles no heavier than 25 pounds.

Christmas Trees (Recycling) Accepted for 2 weeks in January only on Mondays. No ornaments or tree bags.

Grass Clippings (Recycling) Must be in biodegradable paper bags or trash receptacles no larger than 33 gallons. Cans larger than 33 gallons will not be picked up. Plastic bags are NOT acceptable.

Leaves (Recycling) Must be in biodegradable paper bags or trash receptacles no larger than 33 gallons. Cans larger than 33 gallons will not be picked up. Plastic bags are NOT acceptable.

 

Curbside Bulky Waste Collection

  • Program Description: Bulky waste is collected as part of the normal solid waste collection but is accepted on Fridays only. Items containing Freon are accepted by appointment only
  • Schedule: Collection occurs on Fridays only. There will be NO COLLECTION of any kind on the following HOLIDAYS

Material Accepted

Metal Appliances (Recycling) Items containing Freon are accepted by appointment only. Metal appliances such as washer/dryer, lawn mowers, patio sets etc. will be picked up bi-weekly on Wednesdays starting May 17, 2023 instead of quarterly. Please call 973-838-7200 ext. 237 to schedule pickup.

Type 13 Bulky Solid Waste (Disposal) Heavy bulky items such as sofas, dressers, beds, etc. will be picked up every Friday. Metal is not permitted. Excessive amounts of bulk items will require the homeowner to obtain a dumpster at their own cost.

Type 13C Construction & Demo. Debris (Disposal) Limit two 33 gallon containers (Fridays only). All construction material must be free of hardware. Concrete, stone and brick/cinder blocks are not accepted.
